BATTLING INEQUITY: DEMOCRATIZING FOOD
OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
FOOD DESIGN NATION is a hybrid platform designed to facilitate meaningful connections among global creatives to design better futures of food. We strongly believe that by coming together, we can work collaboratively to reshape our food systems.
FDzeeN is our digital publication that aims to foment action-based conversations and cultivate collaboration among the citizens of Food Design Nation. For the first issue, we have partnered with the United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021 to speculate change through tangible and creative solutions.
Each edition represents an opportunity for creatives from diverse backgrounds to be part of our participatory activities hosting workshops, events, publications, and many more. Stay tuned and follow our agenda here.
We are glad to open the call for submissions for FDzeeN ISSUE #01. BATTLING INEQUITY: DEMOCRATIZING FOOD with a deadline of 31st January 2021. Keep on reading to discover more about the challenge, our submission's format and process, and our terms and conditions.

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
At FDN, we believe real change is only possible through collaborative efforts. This is why we recommend you take this opportunity to work with other creative(s) from all over the world to address this submission.
Another one of our core values is creativity merged with a transdisciplinary approach as
a keystone to approach this big challenge.
We envision arts, design, science and technology as a driver for positive impact, with the power to shift from our current food systems to craft designed methods, narratives, services, products or even perspectives.
Applicants can work independently or (ideally) in collaboration with one or more citizens from the transdisciplinary and multicultural Food Design Nation community to address the open call.
Solutions will address the UN FSS21 Action track:
ENSURING ACCESS TO SAFE AND NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO ALL.
1. REDUCING HUNGRY AND INEQUALITY
A creative solution that could lead to a food system transformation that will accelerate progress from 690m hungry people (currently) to zero hunger by 2030 (SDG 2) while reducing inequality (SDG 10). Reducing hunger will require increasing incomes throughout the food system and reducing poverty and inequalities by gender, age, race/ethnicity, employment status, geographical location, and other factors.
2. INCREASING ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS FOOD
For stunting and overweight in children are also relevant, as are those for anaemia in women, and the WHO targets for adult obesity.
3. ADRESSING FOOD SAFETY
Havelaar et al (2015) estimated that foodborne diseases caused 600 million illnesses and 420,000 premature deaths in 2010.There is no specific globally agreed-upon food safety target for 2030, but again a dramatic reduction is needed.
You can dive deep into the background here. FDN will feature selected projects of submitted entries and will do special mentions during the release of results. FDzeeN Issue #01 brings together energies to promote a better understanding of the complex challenge as to democratizing food in a global context exploring the vision of creatives from FDN community.
